About

This is the website of the Mesozoic Tetrapods Research Group at the Palaeontological Institutions in Munich. We are an active palaeontological research group, working on many different aspects of the evolution, biology and ecology of mainly terrestrial tetrapods during the "age of dinosaurs".

Projects

The Mesozoic was an important time in the evolutionary history of tetrapods on our planet. Many new groups appeared, radiated and dispersed over the continents and oceans at that time, including the ancestors of our modern tetrapod biodiversity. Our research is aimed to elucidate this important part of tetrapod history.

Publications

Since the research group was set up in 2005, we have published more than 100 scientific papers in international, peer-reviewed journals, plus numerous contributions in different media for the general public.

News

New research projects: Last year, two new DFG-funded projects started in our lab, one dealing with Late Triassic and Early Jurassic theropods from Europe, and another with a new macronarian sauropod from the Late Jurassic of Chubut, Argentina..

Project in focus

sauropod vertebrae

One focus of our current research are Late Jurassic terrestrial vertebrates from the Cañadón Calcáreo Formation of Chubut, Argentina. Next to the Tendaguru Formation of Tanzania, the Cañadón Calcáreo Formation is the only unit that has so far yielded a rich vertebrate fauna from the Late Jurassic of Gondwana.
